Alison Llewellyn

Managing associate

Alison is a managing associate in the commercial, data and technology group, and a member of our life sciences team. She advises clients on general commercial law and data privacy, and her practice is particularly focussed on the life sciences sector.

Alison has a good working experience of pharmaceutical agreements and has been involved in drafting and negotiating a wide variety of commercial arrangements for the supply and distribution of goods and services including manufacturing agreements, distribution agreements, agreements with CROs/CMOs and standard terms and conditions. Alison also has significant experience of advising on data protection issues and provides data privacy assistance to a range of clients including those in the life sciences sector. She is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (CIPP/E certified). As well as building strong client relationships through dedicated retainer arrangements, Alison has gained valuable commercial experience during a number of in-house secondments, most recently with GE HealthCare's pharmaceutical diagnostics business. Alison's life sciences experience includes advising: 

  • the European headquarters of Gilead Sciences in relation to commercial matters. She advised this biotechnology company on various day-to-day commercial matters and work orders for its commercial arrangements relating to their drugs and products, including market research projects
  • Astellas as part of an ongoing retainer arrangement. She negotiated a critical framework services agreement for the supply of pharmaceutical equipment and provision of support services and in relation to supply chain contracts and manufacturing and supply agreements for API. 
  • UCB on a wide range of commercial contracts, including one-off projects and long term framework agreements, research collaboration agreements, material transfer agreements (including for the transfer of human samples), services agreements, studentship agreements and research and development agreements 
  • Cell Medica on a number of manufacturing agreements, a feasibility agreement and a MSA with a CRO. She also carried out a data protection compliance audit and advised on a full GDPR compliance remediation exercise. 
  • Shield Therapeutics in connection with a complex manufacturing and supply agreement. 
  • GE HealthCare, a leading global medical technology and pharmaceutical diagnostics company, on a wide range of matters across EMEA whilst on secondment to their pharmaceutical diagnostics business. Notable projects include:
    • negotiating a significant long-term agreement with a Chile-based mining company, Sociedad Quimica y Minera de Chile S.A. (SQM), to secure the supply of iodine, a key ingredient for iodinated contrast media products, for which GE Healthcare PDx is one of the largest global consumers.
    • negotiating a private labelling agreement with ulrich medical to enable GE HealthCare to offer its own brand CT Motion injector, an innovative, multi-dose, syringeless technology developed and manufactured by ulrich medical, to a growing injector market in the U.S. 
    • supporting on a number of international supply, manufacturing and distribution agreements, material transfer agreements and various supply chain agreements spanning all stages of its contrast media manufacturing, from development of API to finished product.
